Do you love to write? Or have an interest in exploring music? It doesn’t matter if you’ve never written songs before, we are an open group for anyone of any ability and background.

Our Song-writing Group meets twice a month to work with our Creative Producer to create songs inspired by stories in our collection and your own experiences. We sometimes work with amazing composers, singers, writers and musicians to inspire new approaches to music creation.

This session will be co-hosted by songwriter David Coggins, who will share with us his passion for Leonard Cohen’s music. Together we will be exploring Cohen’s lyrical and musical style to inspire new songs and ways of approaching songwriting. We will also be using stories from the museum’s collection, which are connected to Cohen’s lyrics, to inspire our new piece, touching on the themes of love, journeys and family.

Don’t worry if your new to the group, our doors are always open for new members – it’s a supportive space to try something new! No writing or music experience necessary.
